MOMENT FOR PRAYER

Prayer is a most important aspect of our faith. Prayer is of course a very personal thing. There are no right and wrongs ways of going about it - so long as You are praying to our God and Father or to the Lord Jesus or to the Holy Spirit - one God, three persons.

Our congregation's prayer diary, (issued 2 or 3 times a year), is an aid to prayer - mainly to help us in our prayers for others and to keep us from being too self-centred in our prayers. Here are some we would like to share with you.

Autumn 2008

From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, the Lord's name is to be praised. From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, the Lord's name is to be praised. Praise ye the Lord, praise Him, o ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord; blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth, and for evermore.
From Psalm 113.
God of all wisdom, thank You the courageous witness down the centuries of those who sacrificed their lives rather than deny the truth of the cross; that it is the only way of salvation. Help us to be faithful too, not diminishing any aspect of the Gospel message but proclaiming it throughout the earth. For Christ's sake. Amen.
Care Prayer Guide.
"Only one act of pure love, unsullied by any taint of ulterior motive, have never been performed  in the history of the world, namely the self-giving of God in Christ on the cross for undeserving sinners. Looking for a definition of love, we should look not in a dictionary, but at Calvary".
John Stott.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Philippians 2:3,4 NIV
Forgive us, Lord, our selfish asking, all that's petty in Your sight; Oh, help us pray with Godly motives and to seek what's good and right.

D.De Haan.

Not many of us feel worthy to be called Your servants, and we wonder why You chose us for a particular job. Thank You for pulling out from us skills we didn't know we had, and for trusting us to serve the work of the Kingdom.

M.A.F Prayer Diary

Let us take a little tour
Around this planet once so pure
Skies and oceans once so blue
Trees and grass a rich green hue
Clear and clean nutritious rain
Did help the land and feed the grain
Those days have slipped fast away
Maybe soon a real doomsday
Litter here, an oil slick there
Smokey fumes that fill the air
large forests being swept away
Skies more constantly turning grey
Polluted seas much worse each year
It's lost, it's gone - we're all to blame

Our earth will never be the same
To the future, a planet ailing
Just who is it that we're failing?
Our children's children that is who
Descendants all from me and you
Let's stop, let's think, let's try to save
Our planet from an early grave.

Poem by J Westie was shared by the late
Mr A Livingston

Lord, in the hush of early dawn, when all the world lies sleeping, I place my life and all I love into Thy gracious keeping.......

"Every time we pray our horizon is altered, our attitude to things is altered, not sometimes, but every time, and the amazing thing is that we don't pray more".
Oswald Chambers

Lord God, we thank You for calling us into the company of those who trust in Christ and seek to obey His will. You have made us strangers no longer but pilgrims together on the way to Your kingdom. Guide us closed to You and to one another in the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace and strengthen us together in mission and service to Your world. Amen.
CrossReach.

SMILE TIME

Lord, help me be the person
that my puppy thinks I am.
he counts on me for every need,
for help in every jam.
He looks at me with trusting eyes,
he's sure that I am kind.
The thought that I might let him down
would never cross his mind.

So lord, if in this smaller task
I do the best I can,
Then help me, please,
be just as kind toward my fellow man.
Let steadfast friendship be my aim
and may I never fail
to put a smile on every face,
A wag in every tail!
(Shared by Mrs I Brown)

Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. Amen.
Robert Louis Stevenson.
From our perspective and within our narrow horizons, we often despair at the future of the Church. Lord, give us the wider picture and help us to proclaim "hallelujah: For our Lord God Almighty reigns".
Lord, may Your will be achieved in our service, Your love revealed in our living, and Your saving power made know through our discipleship.
M.A.F. Prayer Diary.

"Have you heard about the minister's cats? They are called Ancient and Modern." "Why would they be called that?"
"Because they are both hims!"
Kelso & Sprouston Link-up.

Many will walk in and out of your life,
but only true friends will leave a print upon your heart.
